Bear Hunts

New Mexico black bear numbers are at an all-time high. Because of this, the New Mexico Game and Fish Department increased the quotas to twice the amount of bears allowed to be harvested in the bear season. There’s no better time to hunt black bear than the present.

Color phase black bears are rare across North America, but here in New Mexico they’re plentiful. Seven out of ten bears we catch on average are color phase bears. Average size is 200-350 pounds. We hunt bears with the same pack of hounds we use on our mountain lion hunts. Hunting black bear in New Mexico behind a pack of well-trained hounds is one of the most exciting hunts you’ll ever go on. It’s a fast-paced, action-packed hunt with very little down time. These hunts take place from mid-August through mid-November. It’s a fully guided, five day hunt and is very affordable.

Hunting Methods

Rigging scent with hounds and cutting track, resulting in treed bear or bayed bear with hounds.
